What’s Hoopla?

A free digital media service that offers you thousands of movies, tv shows, educational/instructional videos, documentaries and music titles to borrow. All you need is a valid Winnipeg Public Library card and a web browser, smartphone, or tablet.

 

There are an unlimited number of copies for the titles in this collection, so that means you won't need to wait for any item. Start streaming immediately, or download a title to your phone or tablet for offline viewing later.

 

Also, there are never any late fees with the items that you borrow from Hoopla. Items automatically check back in at the end of the lending period. 

 

How do I sign up for Hoopla?

Signing up for Hoopla is simple! To start using Hoopla, follow the step-by-step instructions that best fit your situation:

 

How many items can I borrow, and how long can I borrow them for?

You can enjoy 5 Hoopla checkouts per month.

  • Loan period for movies and tv content = 72 hours (3 days).
  • Loan period for music = 7 days.

 

(Borrows made after 7PM CST are counted towards the next day.)

 

Are there any restrictions for young people or children?

Yes, we’ve chosen to restrict anyone with a juvenile card from viewing any ‘R’ rated videos. Any other ratings are available for young people and should be checked out with parent/guardian supervision.

 

Is Hoopla available on library computers?

Yes!

 

Can a title be returned before the lending period expires?

You can return the title before the lending period has expired by tapping on "Return Now". It is located at the bottom of the title detail page. Please note: Returning a title early does not give you additional borrows for that month.

 

Are titles downloaded onto my device or computer?

All titles are available for streaming and most are available for download, but only on mobile devices such as iOS (iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch) and supported Android phones or tablets. A title can only be downloaded to 2 devices per checkout.

  

Where can I find the Hoopla app?

The Hoopla app can be found in the App Store on your iOS device and in the Google Play store on your Android device. Search for "hoopla digital" to find and download the app.

  

In which countries am I able to stream Hoopla content?

Hoopla content is available for streaming in Canada and U.S.A. It is possible to download content to the Hoopla app and view that content in another country.

 

How do I borrow and play titles?

Borrow titles by downloading, installing and signing into the mobile app or by signing into the website and browsing the available content. Once you select a title, click on the "Borrow" button on the title details page. It will be added to your "My Hoopla". From there you can play the title on your mobile device or computer.

 

Does any of the video content offer closed captioning?

Yes, Hoopla supports closed captioning of video content where available and/or required.

 

Where can I go if I need help?

There is a HELP button at the bottom of every hoopla page where you can email your questions or comments. You should hear back from a Hoopla representative shortly after sending in your question.
