Answer

Unfortunately, Kindle "eInk" devices (Kindle Basic, Paperwhite, Voyage, etc.), identifiable by their black & white screens, are NOT compatible with library eBooks in Canada.

Kindle Fire tablets, identifiable by their colour screens, use the Android operating system and are therefore supported through the use of OverDrive's web version of the Libby app.

    1. Why is downloading to Kindle (non Kindle Fire models) not allowed in Canada. Overdrive & Libby etc. can do this for U.S. libraries, so it doesn't seem to be a tech issue. This would be a great service enhancement.

    2. For the past 8 years while in Florida I have been able to borrow ebooks from the library and download them to my kindle paper white. The paper white is strictly for reading whereas the Fire kindle has multiple purposes including borrowing books from a Canadian library. I have read the paper white is easier on your eyes than the fire kindle.

    3. @Sharon, Are you saying that you have been able to use your Kindle Paper White to borrow ebooks from Winnipeg Public Library? This is news to us and we'd love to be able to tell people they could use Kindle eReaders.

    4. @Garry, The problem, to the best of our knowledge, is that Amazon has never enabled it for Canadian libraries. -Mike@WPL
